Coronary artery disease

 Coronary artery disease

Almost one in two males and one in three females dies from coronary arteries disease.

This is the type of heart disease that mainly affects the coronary artery. Coronary arteries supply oxygen and blood to the various parts of the heart. There are three major systems of the coronary arteries.

  1. Left anterior descending artery
  2. Right coronary artery
  3. Circumflex coronary artery

These arteries with the time and with the risk factors the deposition of the cholesterol material inside the artery done with the time.

Risk factors

  1. Drinking alcohol
  2. Diet
  3. Hypertension
  4. High blood pressure
  5. Diabetes
  6. High cholesterol
  7. Smoking
  8. Due to the age
  9. Family history
  10. Genetic make up
  11. Race or ethnicity
  12. Your gender

Men have high risks of heart disease at the age of 45 but women have a great risk at the age of 55.

When the cholesterol deposits inside the artery it narrows the lumen resulting in the obstruction of the blood flow to the heart. It also causes a heart attack when this artery is completely blocked with the cholesterol deposit.

Plaque builds in the arteries that leading to the heart.

Narrow arteries reduce the blood flow causing chest pain.

Diagnosing of coronary artery disease

These tests include in the diagnosing of CAD:

Echocardiogram: In this method create a picture of your heart by using ultrasound waves. The result of this test shows that things work properly in your heart or not.

Stress test: This test shows the stress on your heart during the physical activities and during the rest. For a portion of this test nuclear imaging may be performed.

Heart CT scan: This test is used to check the calcium deposits in your arteries.

Electrocardiogram: In this test electrical signals passed through your heart and doctor determine whether you have had a heart attack.

Treatments od CAD

You should have to change your lifestyle which helps to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

  1.              Quit smoking
  2.             Stop consumption of Alcohol
  3.             Exercise properly
  4.             Lose weight

Eat a diet that is low in fat and low in sodium.

When changing your lifestyle does not improve your condition then you should have to increase blood flow to your heart. You can do this by these procedures

Coronary artery bypass graft surgery: restore the blood flow to the heart

Balloon angioplasty: insertion of the stent to keep the lumen open for blood flow.

enhanced external counterpulsation: stimulates the formation of the new blood vessels.
